Swirls, Circles, and Lines

A line can be defined as a continuous mark with a greater length than width. Lines can define the edge of a form or lead your eye into and through the composition, providing information about character and action.

Thick, thin, straight or curvy, line elements suggest movement and direction, as in Steve’s Different-Vibrations.

Implied lines produced with shapes and color values seem to add motion in Steve Michaels’ composition, Liquid Mind.

“I try to get lines to harmonize in such a way as to project a mood. Lines have a special energy all on their own and sometimes it only takes a bit of tweaking to get my hands on it. When I do, it starts to sing.”
